The Rowan Big Band specializes in the traditional “big band” styles of the orchestras Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, and Count Basie. The group is under the very capable baton of Tim Hedrick. Richard Strauss is one of the greatest German masters of composition. His music is commonly
considered to be the pinnacle of the contemporary German singing arts. Join us for a very special
concert featuring some of the greatest and most popular songs and arias he ever wrote. We have a spectacular evening planned featuring the studio of North Carolina’s own John Fowler. Mr. Fowler has had a long and distinguished career that has carried him onto every major opera stage in the world. John is one of the finest tenors that this country has ever produced. He is sharing his skill and talent with the next generation of America’s finest singers. They’re all coming home to TMA to perform with their favorite pianist, the incomparable Sophia Pavlenko. What a homecoming!

In June of 2026, TMA’s long-standing permanent Composer in Residence, Sophia Pavlenko, was selected as a national delegate to the New Music Alliance Project in Washington, D.C. Representing North Carolina, she participated in grueling residence of two and a half weeks. Her collaboration with the All Stars from across this country was an incredible achievement. The new artistic centers for the United States for the 2026 – 2027 year are Berkeley, San Francisco, Minneapolis, Chicago, Kansas City, Boston, Baltimore, Washington, DC, and Troy, North Carolina. This evening features music specifically composed on-site during the convention. Anchoring the concert is the new piece, Liberty’s Revival, which debuted in Washington, DC, for our nation’s 250th July 4th celebration.
