Concert 1                                   

An Evening with Sophia and Her Friends

Saturday, September 29, 7:00 pm, Trinity United Methodist Church

It’s time!  Join us for a spectacular evening as we “kick off” this year’s series with a special concert featuring the music of our own Sophia Pavlenko.  She first appeared here at the Academy on November 17, 2000 and has been our Composer in Residence ever since.  Based here in Troy, Sophia has composed music that has been carried far and wide all around the world.  She is recognized as one of North Carolina’s, the United States’, and Ukraine’s most prominent living composers.  Musicians are coming from around the globe to perform here on this night.  Expect members of the N.C., Raleigh, Charlotte, Greensboro, Fayetteville, Moore and TMA orchestras to be in attendance.  Our singers are coming in from New York, Paris, Munich, all across North Carolina and the U.S.  Anchoring our lineup will be the incredible voices of John Fowler and Christine Weidinger.  And if we are lucky…..we might even talk Sophia into playing a bit for us.

Christmas with the Chandleys

Saturday, December 1, 7:00 pm, Trinity United Methodist Church

Here at TMA, we have established our own Christmas tradition with the Christmas concerts our own Duo Piano Pair – the highly acclaimed Paul and Sophia.  Make our tradition yours.  Join us for a magical evening of all your classical Christmas favorites as Paul and Sophia play Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, Pachelbel’s Canon in D, Pavlenko’s Christmas Festival and many, many others.  You might even be tempted to take a Sleigh Ride before the night is out!

The Holt String Quartet

Saturday, February 9, 7:00 pm, Trinity United Methodist Church

Cellist Matthew Holt has assembled some of the finest string players that North Carolina has to offer into North Carolina’s newest professional ensemble.  This group is becoming widely known for its traditional interpretations of the great string quartet masterpieces.  Their program is slated to contain the works of Haydn, Mozart, and Shostakovich along with other masters.  Expect a sublime Trinity night of exquisite string playing in an intimate setting.

A Cappella!

Saturday, April 13, 7:00 pm, Trinity United Methodist Church

You know about the Battle of the Bands, American Idol, and Glee.  Now, experience the thrill of competition here at TMA as a cappella groups from North Carolina’s colleges and universities compete for top billing in our second A Cappella Competition.  Have a first hand, ring side seat as our panel of judges select a winner from the best of the best of our young singing groups from around the south.  It’s an exciting evening you won’t want to miss!
